Political process on Syria should be re-launched - de Mistura

MOSCOW. April 20 (Interfax) - The strikes on Syria by the United States and Allies did nothing to advance the peace talks on Syria in any of the venues, UN Secretary-General's Special Envoy for Syria Staffan de Mistura said on Friday.

What happened last week did not help advance the negotiations in Astana, Sochi and Geneva, de Mistura said at a meeting with Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov in Moscow.

Despite all that happened, the political process must be re-launched, he said.

Geneva is ready to function as a platform, but it needs a new lease of life, he said.
