MOSCOW. April 23 (Interfax) - Russian President Vladimir Putin and French President Emmanuel Macron have discussed on the phone the Syria situation after the missile strike and bombings by the United States and its allies, the Kremlin press service said in a statement.
"The Russian side underlined that the attack flagrantly breached international law and even more complicated the process of the political settlement of the Syrian crisis. The importance of the mission of the Organization for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons (OPCW) visiting Syria was stressed in that context," the Kremlin said.
"It was agreed to carry on the joint efforts of Russian and French representatives in order to resume peace negotiations on the basis of UN Security Council resolution 2254 with due account of the results of the Syrian National Dialogue Congress in Sochi," it said.
According to the press service, Putin informed Macron about the efforts taken by Russia on its own and together with partners in the Astana format to improve the humanitarian situation in Syria.
"The sides touched upon topical aspects of Russian-French relations in the light of Emmanuel Macron's visit to Russia due in May of this year," the Kremlin said.
