YEREVAN. April 23 (Interfax) - The opposition has reached an agreement with acting Armenian Prime Minister Karen Karapetyan on the release of all persons detained during mass protest rallies.
"We have a clear agreement with Karapetyan that all detained persons should be immediately released," Nikol Pashinyan, the leader of the popular opposition movement and a member of the parliament, said at a meeting in Yerevan.
"I expect that all detained and arrested persons would be released by the end of the day, by the end of our rally. All of them, without exception," he said.
All political prisoners should also be released, he said. "It is an item on our agenda," Pashinyan said.
"The police must cease detaining supporters of our movement. But we must agree, we must show that the power of the people is 100% capable of controlling situations. I hope that our celebration today will not be marred by unpleasant events," he said.
