BEIJING. April 24 (Interfax-AVN) - The United States is pushing the world into a new arms race, Russian Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu said at a conference of the defense ministers of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) in Beijing on Tuesday.
"We have been witnessing a transformation of international relations and a shift to a polycentric world order in which spheres of influence are being re-distributed and the rivalry for regional and global influence is growing fierce. Under these circumstances, the United States seeks to preserve its hegemony in global affairs by military and other means and pushes other countries into a new arms race," Shoigu said.
"At the same time, Washington is not ready for equal cooperation even with its traditional partners. This is proven by the new U.S. national security and defense doctrines, and the wish to revise major international agreements, including UN resolutions and fundamental principles of the World Trade Organization," he said.
"The United States shamelessly declares the possibility of adjusting unwelcome trends in international politics and the global economy by means of military force," Shoigu said.
