MOSCOW. April 24 (Interfax) - Israel is worried about the possible delivery of Russian S-300 air defense missile systems to Syria, Alexander Ben-Zvi, Deputy Director General and Director of the Eurasia Department of the Israeli Foreign Ministry, told the newspaper Kommersant.
"Any type of weapon system which could endanger Israel's security always worries us," Ben-Zvi said.
He declined to say whether Israel would raise the S-300 subject at negotiations with Russian officials but said, "all matters related to the Syria conflict are constantly addressed at meetings between Israeli politicians and diplomats and Russia's Foreign Ministry and Security Council."
Several years ago, Russia cancelled the delivery of S-300 systems to Syria at Israel's request.
On Monday, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov told reporters in Beijing that there was yet no decision to supply S-300 air defense systems to Syria.
"I cannot say the decision has been made," Lavrov said.
"We should wait and see what decisions the Russian administration makes together with Syrian representatives. I do not think it would be a secret; everything could be announced," he said.
