Russia expects domestic political situation in Armenia to be settled strictly in line with law - Foreign Ministry (Part 2)

MOSCOW. April 24 (Interfax) - Moscow wishes Yerevan the soonest possible stabilization of the situation in the best interests of the Armenian people's wellbeing, the Russian Foreign Ministry said on Tuesday.

Armenian Ambassador to Russia Vardan Toganyan informed Russian Deputy Foreign Minister and State Secretary Grigory Karasin about the current situation in Armenia following Serzh Sargsyan's resignation as prime minister.

"The Russian side emphasized that Moscow is closely following the development of the domestic political situation in Armenia and wishes it the soonest possible stabilization in the interests of the brotherly Armenian people's wellbeing. We hope that all the existing disagreements will be settled exclusively within the legal framework," it said.

Karasin and Toganyan also discussed relevant aspects of Russian-Armenian foreign political interaction and other issues of mutual interest, it said.

Armenian Prime Minister and former President Serzh Sargsyan resigned amid major opposition protests on April 23. He served in this capacity for less than a week, after the parliament endorsed him on April 17.

First Deputy Prime Minister Karen Karapetyan was appointed acting prime minister on Monday.
