ANTALYA (Turkey). April 26 (Interfax) - Russia has not decided whether to supply S-300 air defense systems to Syria, Rostec CEO Sergei Chemezov said.
"No," Chemezov said on Thursday in response to a relevant question from Interfax.
The 2018 Eurasia Airshow is currently being held in Antalya.
Russia's military and diplomats spoke about the possibility of supplying S-300 Favorit systems to Damascus after the April 14 strike launched by the Western coalition on Syria.
On Wednesday, Syrian Ambassador to Russia Riyad Haddad said S-300 air defense missile systems started being used in Syria about a month ago. Later, however, a military diplomat told Interfax that Russia had not supplied Syria with S-300s. Syrian government forces are operating various air defense systems, both ones made in the Soviet Union and modern Russian Pantsir systems, he said.
On April 25, the Chief of the Russian General Staff's Main Operational Directorate, Col. Gen. Sergei Rudskoi, said at a press briefing that the General Staff plans to deliver new air defense systems to Syria soon and train relevant Syrian specialists.
"Russian specialists will keep training Syrian servicemen and help them learn to use new air defense systems, which will be supplied soon," Rudskoi said.
