"Regular meetings between the foreign ministers of the Astana process guarantor countries have enabled us to make much headway in the Syrian settlement process. Today's meeting is also important for further steps in the Syrian settlement context," Cavusoglu told Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov at a meeting.

Lavrov said he wanted to discuss bilateral relations in a number of areas and Syria with the Turkish colleague.

The leaders of Russia and Turkey stay in touch and actively develop relations between trade, economy, and transport ministries, Lavrov said.

"Today we have a good opportunity to review the development of bilateral contacts and to exchange opinions on important global affairs, including the top item on the agenda of today's meeting with our Iranian colleague.
