Air defense units in Crimea to get extra S-400, Pantsir-S systems before year-end

ROSTOV-ON-DON. May 4 (Interfax-AVN) - Further measures will be taken in 2018 to bolster security in the south-west of Russia, Alexander Dvornikov, commander of forces of the Russian Southern Military District, told reporters.

"Air defense units stationed in Crimea will receive additional standard units of S-400 air defense missile systems and Pantsir-S air defense missile and cannon complexes," he said.

More than 20 divisions and military units of the district completed their transition to new and modernized samples of weapons in 2017, Dvornikov said. The share of state-of-the-art warfare equipment in the district exceeds 63% today and will reach 70% in 2018.

"Today the skillful hands of servicemen of the Air Force and Air Defense division operate the most advanced aircraft and cutting-edge air defense systems. Air Force and Air Defense units deployed in Crimea are provided with advanced weapons samples by 100%," Dvornikov said.
