Truce breaches recorded in five Syrian governorates - Russian Defense Ministry

MOSCOW. May 10 (Interfax-AVN) - Militants violated the truce in five governorates of Syria over the past 24 hours, Maj. Gen. Yury Yevtushenko, the head of the Russian Center for Reconciliation of Opposing Sides in Syria, said at a press briefing on Wednesday.

"Militants of illegal armed formations have violated the cessation of hostilities in the governorates of Aleppo, Latakia, Hama, Damascus, and Daraa," Yevtushenko said.

Efforts to promote "the opposing sides' reconciliation and normalize the humanitarian situation" remain a priority of the political settlement process in Syria, he said.

"Measures to create conditions to improve the humanitarian situation, give medical aid to the population in need, and provide for the essential needs of Syrian citizens are the priorities of the Reconciliation Center's work," he said.

A total of 196 people have returned to their homes in the Homs governorate in the past 24 hours, and another 109 civilians have returned to Eastern Ghouta, Yevtushenko said.

The Russian center is supervising militants' transportation from the Tell Rifaat de-confliction zone to the populated locality of Manbij in the Aleppo governorate, he said.

"A total of 651 people with their belongings were evacuated to this populated locality over the past 24 hours," Yevtushenko said.

He said 445 food kits and fresh bread were distributed to residents in Hazeh in the Rif Dimashq governorate and Deir Qaq in the Aleppo governorate.

"The humanitarian cargo weighed a total of three tonnes. Russian military doctors treated 113 Syrians, among them 61 children, over the past 24 hours," Yevtushenko said.

"Efforts to rebuild destroyed social infrastructure and restore peaceful life are encouraging people to return to their homes," he said.
