Israeli strikes on Syria discussed during Netanyahu's visit to Moscow - Bogdanov

KAZAN. May 10 (Interfax) - Israeli strikes on Syrian territory were discussed during the visit of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to Moscow on Wednesday, the Russian President's Special Representative to the Middle East and Africa and Deputy Foreign Minister, Mikhail Bogdanov, said at a press conference in Kazan.

"We are witnessing an escalation, an exchange of strikes between the Iranians and the Israelis, and this is regretful. The Israeli prime minister visited Moscow just yesterday, and the issue was addressed," Bogdanov said.

"We are also contacting the Iranian administration. The situation is regretful, because it is happening in the territory of sovereign Syria. This is a dangerous turn of events, which is distracting everyone from fighting terrorists, Daesh (ISIL) and al-Nusra [both terrorist organizations are banned in Russia], and has negative implications for our efforts towards a political settlement in Syria, in which all neighbors and the international community as a whole should be interested," he said.
