MOSCOW. May 18 (Interfax) - It is necessary to develop a joint plan of actions for the settlement of the situation in Syria, German Chancellor Angela Merkel said following a meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin in Sochi.
"We talked about Syria as well and had a very intense exchange [of views]. Here, in my opinion, the process under the auspices of the United Nations is the opportunity on which we should work," Merkel told reporters at a joint press conference with Putin.
"The next steps must be taken in order to develop a joint plan of action, which would be discussed at working groups. We thoroughly support the process of [the UN Secretary-General's] Special Envoy [Staffan] de Mistura's work," she said.
