Russia expects U.S. to continue acting constructively in settling Korea crisis - Lavrov

MOSCOW. May 21 (Interfax) - Moscow expects Washington will continue to play a constructive role in efforts to settle the situation in the Korean Peninsula and believes North Korea and the U.S. should refrain from making mutually unacceptable demands in the run-up to the bilateral summit, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said.

"As concerns the U.S.' role in the settlement process, we hope it will remain constructive. The meeting set in Singapore for June 12 between U.S. President Donald Trump and DPRK State Affairs Commission Chairman Kim Jong Un will be of great significance," Lavrov said in an interview with the Argentine newspaper Clarin.

"If the parties refrain from making knowingly unacceptable demands for each other and signal a willingness to engage in a mutually respectful dialogue, the Korean Peninsula's denuclearization will have good prospects," he said.
