Pacific Fleet to procure subs armed with Kalibr cruise missiles

VLADIVOSTOK. May 21 (Interfax) - A series of Project 636.3 submarines armed with Kalibr cruise missiles is under construction for the Russian Pacific Fleet, the fleet's press service said in a statement.

"In the near future, the submarine forces of the Pacific Fleet will procure diesel-electric submarines of Project 636.3, which are under construction at the St. Petersburg Admiralty Shipyards. They are armed with Kalibr seaborne cruise missiles, among other weapons. The state armament program envisages the construction of such a class of submarines," the press service said.

The rearming program has provided coastal units of the Pacific Fleet with Bastion and Bal mobile missile systems, and the S-300 air defense missile system has been replaced by the S-400 Triumph, and the fleet's marines have new armored personnel carriers and BTR-82A and T-80BV tanks, the press service said,

Modernized ship-based Kamov Ka-29 helicopters have been supplied to naval aviation units stationed in the Primorye and Kamchatka territories, it said.

The Pacific Fleet celebrates its 287th anniversary on May 21.
