CIS Executive Committee yet to receive formal notice of Ukraine's withdrawal

MINSK. May 21 (Interfax) - The CIS Executive Committee has yet to receive official documents regarding the withdrawal of Ukrainian representatives from the statutory bodies of the Commonwealth of Independent States.

"We have not received any documents from Ukraine as of Monday morning," the press service of the Executive Committee told Interfax.

Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko signed an executive order on withdrawing from CIS statutory bodies on Saturday.

He also said that Kyiv would review all international agreements signed within the framework of the CIS and withdraw from the agreements that contravened Ukraine's national interests.

On May 2, the Ukrainian National Security and Defense Council (NSDC) supported the proposal that Ukrainian representatives be withdrawn from CIS bodies.

The NSDC instructed the Foreign Ministry to take measures to end the validity of certain inter-state agreements.

Ukraine signed the CIS founding treaty on December 8, 1991 together with Russia and Belarus. However, it declined to sign the CIS Charter at the Minsk summit in January 1993. Kyiv moved to minimize its involvement in CIS events in spring 2014.
