MOSCOW. May 21 (Interfax) - The Russian Defense Ministry is planning to sign a contract on the construction of six Project 22800 fast attack craft for the Pacific Fleet, the fleet's press service said in a statement.
"In 2019, the Defense Ministry plans to sign a contract for the construction of a series of six fast attack craft of Project 22800 for the Pacific Fleet. As of now, these ships are among the best in their class in terms of navigation, technical, and combat," the press service said.
The ships, which were developed by the Almaz Central Marine Design Bureau, have a displacement of about 800 tonnes and a maximum speed of over 30 knots. They are armed with precision-guided missiles and modern artillery, anti-sabotage, and advanced electronic warfare systems.
They are powered by engines made in Russia. They are highly maneuverable and feature enhanced seaworthiness and stealth superstructure and hull architecture. The ships can operate on a range of 3,000 miles, which enables their attachment to combined and homogenous naval groups deployed far from bases.
It was reported earlier that the Defense Ministry was buying Project 22800 fast attack craft armed with Kalibr and Oniks cruise missiles. The contract was signed at the Army 2017 forum.
