Russian military say over 60 munitions found in former Yarmouk refugee camp near Damascus

DAMASCUS. May 23 (Interfax-AVN) - Syrian sappers are clearing the Yarmouk area on the southern outskirts of Damascus of mines, the head of the Russian center for reconciliation of opposing sides in Syria, Maj. Gen. Yury Yevtushenko, said on Tuesday.

"Syrian engineering units and sappers trained by Russian specialists are demining the former Palestinian refugee camp in Yarmouk," Yevtushenko said.

"Six blocks have been examined by now; 13 anti-tank mines, 15 dud munitions, and 34 improvised explosive devices have been defused," he said.

The Syrian government forces said the day before that all Damascus suburbs, including Yarmouk, had passed under government control.
