Russian first deputy defense minister orders that Kunashir air defense zone be ready by November

MOSCOW. May 23 (Interfax) - Russian First Deputy Defense Minister Ruslan Tsalikov has inspected the ongoing creation of an air defense zone on the Kuril Island of Kunashir, and listened to a report on the time of commissioning social facilities for the military, the Russian Defense Ministry said in a statement.

The commander of the Eastern Military District's machinegun-and-artillery regiment, Col. Alexander Malinin, told Tsalikov when the Kunashir military infrastructure would be ready.

"The first deputy minister listened to reports by the Russian Defense Ministry's contractor and builders regarding the commissioning of new facilities of the Eastern Military District," the ministry said.

In addition, Tsalikov inspected the construction of the Lagunnoye base and visited the modular compound accommodating contract servicemen. He was given a tour of the dormitory, the first-aid station, and utility rooms.

"At the end of his visit to the Kunashir Island, Ruslan Tsalikov ordered designated officers to complete all works by November 2018," the ministry said.
