Putin, Macron discuss cyberspace risks, said new tools to be created in this sphere

ST. PETERSBURG. May 25 (Interfax) - Russian President Vladimir Putin and French President Emmanuel Macron have said they agreed to create new interaction tools in cyberspace.

"We talked about risks that exist in the cyberspace, and about cyberattacks. We agreed to create a new mechanism of exchanging information and on work in certain cases," Macron said at a press conference with Putin in St. Petersburg on Thursday.

This mechanism should "help us to work out a common regulation of conduct in cyberspace," Macron said.

In turn, speaking about cyberattacks, Putin said that "any action is always counteracted, and one should agree on rules of conduct in certain spheres in order [to ensure that] there is no counteraction that someone may dislike."

"When people invented a nuclear bomb, everyone understood how dangerous it is and agreement on the rules in order to prevent the tragedy. It is apparent now that cyberspace is an important sphere of life of millions of people," he said.

"Let's agree on how we will work together, agree on common rules, work out control mechanisms to observe these rules," Putin said.

"We agreed with Mr. President [of France] that we will make necessary steps to go just along this path," he said.
