Russian, Mongolian defense ministers discuss military-technical cooperation

KYZYL (Tuva). June 6 (Interfax-AVN) - Russian Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu and Mongolian Defense Minister Nyamaagiin Enkhbold have discussed military-technical cooperation at their talks in Kyzyl, Russia's internal republic of Tuva.

"We confirm our aspiration to activate the potential for the development of military cooperation as effectively as possible. I suggest exchanging opinions on topical issues of our interaction in the military and military-technical spheres," Shoigu said whilst opening the meeting with Enkhbold on Wednesday.

Enkhbold is an honorary guest at a meeting of the CIS Council of Defense Ministers that is taking place in Kyzyl on Wednesday.

Shoigu is certain that Enkhbold's participation in the meeting of the CIS Council of Defense Ministers will allow understanding more details of the work within the CIS to strengthen military cooperation.

Agreements reached at the April meeting with the Mongolian defense ministers are being fulfilled, Shoigu said.

"We have to put an action plan for what we have outlined for the coming years. We have prepared blueprints of the plan. I think that with regard to your opinion and your amendments we will be able to prepare and approve it in quite a short period of time," Shoigu said.

In general, all joint events are taking place "rather well and efficiently," he said. "Preparations for joint exercises and significant work to train staff are underway," Shoigu said, adding that just before the departure for the meeting of the CIS Council of Defense Ministers he signed a decision to train Mongolian young people at the Kyzyl presidential cadet school. "I hope this will be useful and will continue to develop," he said.

On April 4, Enkhbold said at talks with Shoigu that Russia and Mongolia are preparing the third military-technical cooperation program for 2019-2024.
