Kyiv's formal request needed to discuss Ukrainians-for-Russians swap - Russian Foreign Ministry (Part 2)

MOSCOW. June 6 (Interfax) - Kyiv needs to file a formal request for discussing the exchange of Ukrainians convicted in Russia for Russian citizens, Deputy Foreign Minister Grigory Karasin said.

"That would require a formal request," Karasin said in comment on the remarks by Ukrainian Verkhovna Rada First Vice-Speaker and representative at the humanitarian subgroup of the Trilateral Contact Group for Ukraine (TCG) Iryna Herashchenko.

The latter said Kyiv demanded that Moscow immediately release Ukrainian citizens convicted in Russia and was waiting for Russia's reply to the proposal of exchanging 23 Russian citizens for the Ukrainians.

"We are waiting for Russia's response to the Ukrainian proposal that 23 Russians be transferred in exchange for liberating our [people]," Herashchenko said on Facebook on June 4.
