Problem of Korean Peninsula denuclearization cannot be resolved in U.S.-N. Korea format - Lavrov

MOSCOW. June 13 (Interfax) - Moscow doubts that the United States and North Korea can resolve issues relating to the denuclearization of the Korean Peninsula and the provision to Pyongyang of security guarantees in a bilateral format, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said on Wednesday.

"No doubt, the problems can hardly be fully resolved in a bilateral format, although the solution of problems between the United States and North Korea, including the stages of the peninsula's denuclearization, is important," Lavrov told a press conference in Moscow.

"All participants in the six-party negotiations operated on the assumption that this process should eventually lead to the creation of a system of peace, security and stability in the entire Northeast Asia," he said.
