MOSCOW. June 13 (Interfax) - Russia views positively the U.S.-North Korea summit in Singapore; the mere fact of direct contact between the leaders of the two countries is welcome, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said.
"We earlier expressed our positive attitude towards the summit that took place in Singapore. The mere fact of direct contact between the leaders of the U.S. and North Korea is worth supporting," Lavrov told a press conference in Moscow.
Lavrov emphasized that the motion between Washington and Pyongyang is keeping in line with the Russian-Chinese roadmap on the Korean settlement.
"Indeed, the Russian-Chinese roadmap, which was proposed less than one year ago, envisaged abandonment of belligerent rhetoric and provocative actions on both sides on the initial stage and establishing direct contact and launching a discussion on all existing problems and all concerns which every side has on the second stage," he said.
The process between the U.S. and North Korea 'is moving right in this direction', Lavrov said.
U.S. President Donald Trump and North Korean leader Kim Jong Un held talks in Singapore on Tuesday and expressed their willingness to work on the Korean Peninsula's denuclearization.
