KYIV. June 18 (Interfax) - The Donetsk region's Krasnoarmeiskyi District Court has imposed a restrictive measure in the form of arrest on Russian citizen Igor Kimakovsky, who was detained at a checkpoint on the separation line with the self-proclaimed Donetsk People's Republic (DPR), Larysa Sarhan, the spokesperson for the Ukrainian prosecutor general, said.

"On June 18, 2018, Krasnoarmeiskyi District Court imposed a restrictive measure in the form of arrest on defendant Kimakovsky at a procedural supervisor's request," she said on her Facebook account on Monday.

Kimakovsky was arrested in the courtroom, she said.

The arrested man is a former lecturer of the St. Petersburg State Agrarian University, Sarhan said.

Ukrainian border guards detained him at a checkpoint in Berezove, Donetsk region, he was carrying a Makarov pistol, she said.

In Ukraine, the Russian citizen is charged with infringing on Ukraine's territorial integrity, plotting, preparing, unleashing and conducting an aggressive war, illegally handling weapons, ammunition or explosive substances, breaching the procedure of entering and exiting the temporary occupied territory of Ukraine and committing crimes in a group of persons or a gang in collusion. The charges carry up to 15 years of imprisonment and the possible seizure of property.

Earlier in June, the Ukrayinska Pravda online media said, citing a ruling of the Donetsk region's Krasnoarmeiskyi District Court of May 18, 2018, that the court released Russian citizen Kimakovsky, who is charged with unleashing a war, from custody.

In its ruling, the court referred to "unsatisfactory health" and the need to receive treatment of illnesses mentioned by the defendant, in particular, chronic pancreatitis, gastroduodenitis and vegetovascular dystonia.

Kimakovsky assured the court that he was not going to flee and claimed that he supplied humanitarian aid to the territories outside Kyiv's control, restored the infrastructure of Debaltseve, was an aide to the mayor of this city, made contact between the DPR Education Ministry and educational establishments, and interacted with media.

The Obozrevatel online media said that Kimakovsky was one of those people who refused to return to Russia as part of the large-scale prisoner swap on December 27, 2017.
