UN General Assembly approves resolution urging Russia to withdraw troops from Transdniestria (Part 2)

UN, NEW YORK CITY. June 22 (Interfax) - The UN General Assembly approved on Friday a resolution calling for the withdrawal of foreign troops from Moldova.

The resolution was supported by 64 countries, 14 voted against it, and 83 abstained.

The document urges Russia "to complete, unconditionally and without further delay, the orderly withdrawal of the Operational Group of Russian Forces" from Transdniestria in accordance with the relevant decisions of the Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe and as agreed at its summit in Istanbul in 1999.

The resolution was submitted by Moldova and co-sponsored by Canada, Georgia, Romania, Ukraine, and Estonia.

It was presented by Moldovan Minister of Foreign Affairs and European Integration Tudor Ulianovschi.

The participants in the session decided to put a discussion of the issue of a full withdrawal of foreign armed forces from Moldova on the agenda of the 73rd session of the UN General Assembly, according to reports.
