First stage of Zvezda shipyard to be ready in 2019 - Deputy PM Borisov

BOLSHOI KAMEN (Primorye Territory). June 29 (Interfax) - Russia's largest shipyard, Zvedza, is being built at a high pace, Deputy Prime Minister Yury Borisov said in his opening remarks at a conference in Zvezda on Friday.

"There are two stages in the shipyard project, which will be finalized in 2024. We plan to commission the first expanded stage in 2019. The [construction] pace is high, we should keep it that way, and prevent the project deadlines from being missed," Borisov said.

The shipyard will be tasked with building a Lider icebreaker by 2027, he said.

"Our interagency group has met at the Baltic Plant in St. Petersburg to agree on where the nuclear-powered icebreaker will be built and to study its capacities," Borisov said.

He added that the conference in Zvezda would address the fulfillment of government defense orders amongst other issues.

"Any problems should be swiftly resolved on all levels. It is impermissible not to fulfill government defense orders," Borisov said.
