MOSCOW. July 4 (Interfax) - Russia, along with the Syrian army and Jordan, is trying to persuade fighters in southern Syria to conclude a ceasefire and lay down their arms, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov told journalists on Wednesday.
"Simultaneously, we are helping the Syrian army to work with the armed groups to persuade them to conclude a ceasefire agreement, lay down their arms, and return to peaceful life. And I'd like to note Jordan's very useful contribution to these efforts," Lavrov said at a press conference following negotiations with his Jordanian counterpart on Wednesday.
"And a number of groups have already concluded relevant ceasefire agreements, and, consequently, peace has come to the communities that these groups controlled," Lavrov said.
