Over 300 civilians left Syria's southern de-escalation area in past 24 hrs - Russian military

MOSCOW. July 23 (Interfax) - Over 300 civilians have been evacuated from Syria's southwestern de-escalation area through the Kafr-Shams checkpoint in the past 24 hours, Col. Igor Sergeyev of the Russian Defense Ministry's Interagency Coordination Headquarters said on Monday.

"A total of 311 civilians were taken out of the southwestern de-escalation area in the past 24 hours, 311 through the Kafr-Shams checkpoint. A total of 46,465 people have left the southwestern de-escalation area since June 27, 2018, and 7,268 of them were taken to the points in Jebab and Rsas," Sergeyev said at a meeting of the Russian Defense Ministry's and the Russian Foreign Ministry's interagency coordination headquarters for the return of refugees to Syria.

A total of 2,071 people are currently in those camps, he said. The Jebab camp received 302 refugees in the past 24 hours. Members of illegal armed groups and members of their families, 1,718 people in total, were taken from the town of Jaba in the southwestern de-escalation area to the city of Idlib in the Idlib de-escalation area using 56 buses, Sergeyev said.
