MOSCOW. Aug 2 (Interfax-AVN) - A major missile unit of the 49th Combined-Arms Army of the Southern Military District, deployed in Kuban, was placed on training alert as part of scheduled tactical drills involving Iskander-M tactical missile systems, the Southern Military District press service reported on Thursday.
"Missilemen have undertaken a march to the Molkino Combined-Arms Range in the Krasnodar Territory for combat training," the statement said.
"At the drills servicemen of the major unit will drill the scope of tasks with changing starting positions many times. Iskander-M firing crews are to destroy maritime targets of the simulated enemy in the Black Sea, and the simulated enemy's sites located in the mountains, by performing electronic launches," the press service reported.
The major missile unit is fulfilling training-combat tasks as part of the common scenario of joint tactical drills involving the major combined-arms unit, the forces of the 4th Air Force and Air Defense Army of the Southern Military District and the Black Sea Fleet on the Black Sea coast in Kuban and Abkhazia.
Over 500 missilemen and about 50 units of military hardware of the major unit are involved in scheduled tactical drills, the press service reported.
