Tskhinval calls on NATO countries to curb Tbilisi's aggression

TSKHINVAL. Aug 7 (Interfax) - The South Ossetian Foreign Ministry made a statement on the 10th anniversary of the conflict in the South Caucasus, accusing Tbilisi of harboring revanchist plans and calling on NATO countries to review all the consequences of the August 2008 events.

Georgia "is augmenting its stocks of weapons and training new assault units," the Foreign Ministry said. "The Tbilisi regime is conducting a massive propaganda campaign, attempting to deny obvious facts and seeking to persuade the international community by circulating disinformation that Georgia itself was a victim of aggression," it said.

The ministry also referred to the Georgian-NATO exercises currently taking place.

"We deeply regret to observe that it is no accident that the large-scale military exercise Noble Partner 2018 is being conducted on the 10th anniversary of Georgia's military aggression against South Ossetia. While it has been declared that the joint exercise is aimed at promoting stability and security in the Black Sea region, it certainly serves specific political and strategic objectives as a demonstration of strength to neighboring states," it said.

In this light, the South Ossetian Foreign Ministry said it could not rule out that Georgia might again resort to aggression and urged NATO countries to weigh all of the implications of the events of August 2008.
