U.S. course toward dismantling JCPOA is destructive - Russian Foreign Ministry

MOSCOW. Aug 9 (Interfax) - The course taken by the United States to dismantle the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) on the Iranian nuclear program is absolutely destructive, Russian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Maria Zakharova said.

"We have stressed repeatedly that the course taken by Washington toward dismantling the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action on Tehran's nuclear program and the reinstatement of full-scale sanction pressure on this state is absolutely destructive," Zakharova said at a news briefing in Moscow.

"By taking this step, the U.S. is once again acting contrary to the opinion of most other countries and exclusively in its own narrowly opportunistic interests. The matter is not about the U.S.' national interests," she said.

"The matter is about the interests of a certain group of individuals, lobbyists who are pursuing this policy at this stage," Zakharova said. "These steps are extraterritorial in that they imply restrictions to be imposed on individuals and organizations from third countries for cooperation with Iran in areas banned by U.S. law," she said.
