MOSCOW. Aug 15 (Interfax-AVN) - A live-fire stage of the Russian-Serbian tactical exercise has begun at the Luga range in the Leningrad region, the Russian Defense Ministry said on Wednesday.
"Russian and Serbian servicemen will jointly create lines of defense, reinforce their positions, reconnoiter hostile aircraft, conduct engineering, and radiation, chemical and biological reconnaissance of deployment routes, take electronic countermeasures, and deter sabotage and special-operations forces of the simulated enemy," the ministry said.
Russian and Serbian servicemen will practice defensive maneuvering, securing of their positions, and fighting for the last line of defense. New forms and methods of combined-arms battle will be broadly applied during the drill, which involves reinforcements and visual and radar means of reconnaissance.
The drill, which will end on August 17, involves about 800 servicemen and more than 200 pieces of weapons and military hardware, including army aviation helicopters.
