Russian Foreign Ministry calls new U.S. sanctions baseless

MOSCOW. Aug 15 (Interfax) - The anti-Russian sanctions declared by the United States over the Skripals' poisoning in Salisbury are baseless, Russian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Maria Zakharova said.

"U.S. politicians have joined the provocation staged against Russian citizens in Salisbury and declared new anti-Russian sanctions on the basis of the events that happened in Salisbury and Amesbury. We view these baseless decisions as biased and politically motivated; they remind us of the situation, which happened over a decade ago in connection with alleged presence of chemical weapons in Iraq," Zakharova said at a press briefing on Wednesday.
