KALININGRAD. Aug 15 (Interfax) - Moscow believes the involvement of the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) in the repatriation of Syrian refugees is premature, Russian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Maria Zakharova said.
"The leadership of the UNHCR Office, which has been referred to, is convinced that the massive and voluntary return of Syrians to their homes requires a number of political preconditions. This position also looks questionable to us. Therefore, it is unfortunately premature to talk about the UNHCR Office's broad involvement in the repatriation of Syrian refugees," Zakharova said at a news briefing on Wednesday.
UN Human Rights Commissioner for Refugees Filippo Grandi had said earlier that the return of Syrian refugees home in the current conditions is unsafe.
