ROSTOV-ON-DON. Aug 17 (Interfax-AVN) - More than 2,500 servicemen of the mountain motorized rifle unit of the Russian Southern Military District's 49th Combined-Arms Army based in the Republic of Karachayevo-Cherkessia have launched a two-day tactical exercise, the military district's press service said.
"The military district's commander Col. Gen. Alexander Dvornikov has arrived at the Kabu-Bashi mountainous training range in Karachayevo-Cherkessia in order to assess the level of the combat preparedness of the motorized rifle units' commanders," the press service said.
The Russian Armed Forces are currently holding bilateral tactical drills at 20 combined-arms training ranges located in the Volgograd and Rostov regions, the Krasnodar Territory, the Stavropol Territory, Crimea, and other regions.
More than 6,000 servicemen and around 2,000 units of military hardware are taking part in them.
