MOSCOW. Aug 20 (Interfax-AVN) - Russia's Defense Ministry has informed military attaches accredited in Moscow about a surprise inspection of combat preparedness that is taking place in the Russian Armed Forces.
Russian Deputy Defense Minister Col. Gen. Alexander Fomin held a meeting with representatives of foreign military diplomatic corps accredited in Russia on Monday, the ministry said.
"Col. Gen. Alexander Fomin organized an event to announce the surprise inspection of troops (forces) in the Central and Eastern Military Districts, in the Airborne Forces, and in the long-range and military transport aviation of the Russian Armed Forces," it said.
"With a view to strengthening confidence-building measures, this information was additionally communicated to the signatories of the Vienna Document of 2011 via OSCE communication channels," the ministry said.
