MOSCOW. Aug 20 (Interfax) - Four militants who attacked policemen in Chechnya have been killed, and the one who tried to blow himself up is alive, an informed source told Interfax on Monday.
"Four out of the five militants that attacked the policemen were killed. One of them tried to commit a suicide bombing but survived," the source said.
Five policemen and two civilians were hurt in the attack, the source said.
"There were no fatalities among policemen or civilians," the source said.
"Two militants armed with knives attempted to enter a police department. They wounded two policemen and were killed by return fire. Two passers-by suffered light injuries in the shootout," the source said.
The civilians' lives are not in jeopardy, the source said.
The militants attempted to detonate propane tanks in their car when crossing into Grozny.
"The tanks did not blow up. The militants knocked down three policemen who tried to stop the car, after which fire was opened on it and two militants inside the car were killed," the source said.
"According to tentative reports, all five militants were born in the town of Shali," the source said.
