Russian wheeled tank based on Bumerang platform may carry 120mm, 125mm cannons

MOSCOW. Aug 21 (Interfax) - A wheeled tank based on the Bumerang platform may be developed after this platform is adopted by the Russian Armed Forces, Military Industrial Company general director Alexander Krasovitsky told Interfax in an interview.

"In accordance with the approved schedule, trial models of the integrated wheeled armored platform Bumerang are currently undergoing preliminary tests. So are the developments of our colleagues from Uralvagonzavod and Kurganmashzavod," Krasovitsky said.

"The integrated wheeled armored platform Bumerang is expected to carry different weapons and also military and special-purpose hardware. A wheeled tank may become one of such samples of military and special-purpose hardware that will be based on our Bumerang platform," he said.

However, the development of such hardware may begin only after the Bumerang platform's state-commissioned trials are completed and it is adopted by the Armed Forces, he said.

"The qualities of the platform will allow it to carry weapons systems equipped with 30mm, 45mm, and 57mm automatic cannons, 125mm smoothbore cannons, and 120mm weapons similar to those that are mounted on Vena self-propelled artillery weapons. All this will depend on a customer's requirements," Krasovitsky said.
