KUBINKA (Moscow region). Aug 21 (Interfax-AVN) - The Russian-Indian joint venture BrahMos is designing a hypersonic BrahMos missile, BrahMos General Manager Praveen Pathak told Interfax at the Army 2018 forum on Tuesday.
Tests of the hypersonic BrahMos missile could begin at least five years from now, Pathak said.
The joint venture is collaborating with NPO Mashinostroyeniya and a number of Indian research centers, Pathak said. Various modifications of the future missile are being designed, he said.
Three-quarters of BrahMos cruise missiles' component parts are made in India, Pathak said.
The amount will reach 80% after the homing warhead is tested, he said.
Lots of component parts are made in India with the support of NPO Mashinostroyeniya, Pathak said. The booster and the homing warhead have been tested lately, he added.
According to Pathak, the tests were successful.
Products are being constantly improved in order to make all component parts both in India and in Russia, Pathak said.
This is important, especially considering future orders from third countries, he said.
