Kosachyov says Bolton's proposals on possible Syria talks after Iranian forces' withdrawal from region are inappropriate amid sanctions

MOSCOW. Aug 22 (Interfax) - Proposals on possible talks after Iranian forces leave Syria articulated by U.S. National Security Adviser John Bolton are inappropriate amid the current aggravation of anti-Russian sanctions, Federation Council Foreign Affairs Committee Chairman Konstantin Kosachyov said.

"Bolton also mentions the United States' worst headache, Iranian presence in Syria, in the Russian context. But here comes the delicate subject of possible leverage and abilities that several countries have. In any case, it is not quite appropriate to talk about such important issues to a partner against whom you toughen your sanctions almost on a daily basis now," Kosachyov told Interfax on Wednesday.
