Unidentified helicopters deliver weapons to ISIL, Taliban in Afghanistan - Russian Foreign Ministry

MOSCOW. Aug 23 (Interfax) - Unidentified helicopters in Afghanistan have been delivering ammunition and weapons to militants of the Taliban and Islamic State (terrorist organizations banned in Russia), and Afghan authorities do not react to this, Russian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Maria Zakharova said at a news briefing on Thursday.

"First, I would like to say about flights of the so-called unidentified helicopters for supporting extremists in northern Afghanistan. We once again pay attention to flights of these helicopters in northern Afghanistan, they have been presented as unidentified, they deliver ammunition and weapons to local [militants] from ISIL and the Taliban, which cooperates with this terrorist organization," Zakharova said.

"In particular, according to Afghan media and local residents, such flights have been recorded lately in the province of Sar-e-Pol. We take note that this happens in the near vicinity of the Central Asian states' borders," she said.

"There has been no reaction to these events from either Afghan government forces or the NATO contingent deployed there," Zakharova said.
