KUBINKA (Moscow region). Aug 27 (Interfax-AVN) - The PAK DP prospective interceptor jet may replace the MiG-31 around 2030, Yury Slyusar, president of the United Aircraft Corporation (UAC), said.
"This should logically by synchronized with the completion of the planned resource of the MiG-31. By that time, we will need to develop a new machine, that will be around 2030," Slyusar said in an interview with Interfax, responding to a question about the possible timeframe of the creation of the PAK DP (MiG-41).
A new air frame will be developed for the prospective interceptor, he said.
"We are working on a new concept, yes. We plan to use new technologies and materials in the creation of this aircraft," he said.
Research work is now being done to create a concept of the new jet, he said.
"We are at the stage of research work. It will answer all questions: what machine is needed, what the concept of its combat use is, what characteristics it should have, what tasks it should achieve, whether we have done any technological work already that can meet these challenges. This work will take several years," Slyusar said.
The UAC president said the characteristics of the PAK DP will be determined depending on the customer's requirements. "Everything will depend on the tasks. If they tell us to fly into space, we will fly into space," Slyusar said.
