ROSTOV-ON-DON. Aug 27 (Interfax-AVN) - The motorized infantry units of the Southern Military District and the marines of the Caspian flotilla were alerted in Dagestan in a combat readiness check, the Southern Military District press service told Interfax.

"Motorized infantry troops and marines, formed into company tactical groups, will conduct an opposing-force tactical exercise on the firing range Adanak. The maneuvers will be supported by operative-tactical aviation aircraft and army helicopters of the 4th Army of the Southern Military District's Air Force and Air Defense Force. Pairs of Sukhoi Su-24M bombers, Sukhoi Su-27SM fighters and Kamov Ka-52 attack helicopters have been put under the operative command of the units' commanders," the press service said.

The marine infantry will practice landing on a sea coast in a situation of a simulated all-arms battle involving motorized infantry, the press service said. The exercise, which will be conducted on the Caspian coast, will involve some 1,500 troops, some 200 pieces of hardware, as well as aviation and ships of the Caspian flotilla
