U.S.' attempt to change regime in Syria has failed - Lavrov

MOSCOW. Aug 29 (Interfax) - The United States has tried to change the regime in Syria but has been unable to do so, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said at a news briefing following talks with Saudi Foreign Minister Adel al-Jubeir in Moscow on Wednesday.

"This is not the first time that the U.S., under very different administrations, has set the goal of changing regimes it doesn't like above the general goals of eradicating extremism and terrorism. It happened in Iraq, it happened in Libya. And this is what they are trying to do in Syria. Or I'll say it more correctly - they tried to do so in Syria. They failed," he said.
