U.S. ambassador to Ukraine opens multinational exercise Rapid Trident

KYIV. Sept 3 (Interfax) - Fourteen countries have demonstrated solidarity with Ukraine by participating in the Rapid Trident 2018 multinational military exercise, U.S. Ambassador to Ukraine Marie Yovanovitch said in Kyiv.

"Today 2,200 participants from 14 nations - spanning continents and oceans - stand in solidarity with [Ukraine], for Ukrainian security, Ukrainian sovereignty, and Ukrainian territorial integrity," the U.S. embassy said on Twitter on Monday in quoting Yovanovitch as saying at the opening ceremony of the Rapid Trident 2018 exercise in the Lviv region.

The Ukrainian Armed Forces annually conduct the largest joint exercises in its territory together with foreign military units at the training range of the International Peacekeeping and Security Center of the Hetman Petro Sahaidachny National Ground Forces Academy, located in the village of Starychi, the Yavoriv district in the Lviv region.

In Soviet times, the territory served as the training range of the Lviv Higher Military-Political College.
