KYIV. Sept 4 (Interfax) - Ukraine's Verkhovna Rada has registered a Ukrainian draft parliamentary resolution containing an application to the Norwegian Nobel Committee to nominate Ukrainian filmmaker Oleh Sentsov convicted in Russia for the Nobel Peace Prize.
The relevant draft resolution co-authored by several members of the Petro Poroshenko Bloc faction and their People's Front counterparts was submitted to the Verkhovna Rada and filed for consideration of the parliament's leadership on Tuesday.
There are still no text of the draft resolution and accompanying documents on the Verkhovna Rada website.
In August 2015, the North Caucasus District Military Court in Rostov-on-Don sentenced Sentsov, who was detained in Crimea in 2014, to 20 years in a high-security penitentiary for plotting a terrorist attack there.
Sentsov went on hunger strike on May 14, 2018 and demanded that all Ukrainians held in Russia for political reasons be freed. Sentsov's relatives have said that his condition has seriously deteriorated.
