Militants still violate ceasefire in Syrian de-escalation area Idlib - Russian military

HMEIMIM (Syria). Sept 5 (Interfax) - The number of ceasefire violations by militants in the Idlib de-escalation area does not fall, the Russian military said.

"Despite the established regime of the cessation of hostilities, the number of violations by illegal armed groups operating in the Idlib de-escalation area does not reduce," the chief of the Russian Center for Reconciliation of Opposing Sides in Syria, Lieut. Gen. Vladimir Savchenko, said at a press briefing on Tuesday.

The attacks on the populated localities of Safsafa, Djubb el-Meara, Kinsibba (three times), Saraf, Nahshebba, Ain el-Qantara, Sandran, Ikko (three times), Barisha and on the governmental forces' positions in the area of the Abu Ali Mount in the Latakia governorate, and the neighborhoods of Halidia, Makanis ed-Duwairi (twice), Assad's Academy in the Aleppo city, and on the populated localities of Maharda, El-Latamna, Tell-Bazzam in the Hama governorate have been seen in the past 24 hours, he said.

The Russian Reconciliation Center urged commanders of illegal armed groups to end armed provocations and join the peace process.

As to the situation in southeastern Syria, members of former illegal armed groups have surrendered four mortars, 19 firearms and about one tonne of artillery shells and small arms rounds of various calibers in the past 24 hours, Savchenko said.
