Zakharchenko's murder to be discussed at Minsk talks - DPR

DONETSK. Sept 5 (Interfax) - The security subgroup in Minsk will discuss a terrorist attack, in which head of the self-proclaimed Donetsk People's Republic (DPR) Alexander Zakharchenko was killed, and violations of the "school truce," a DPR envoy to the Joint Center for Control and Coordination (JCCC) told reporters.

"The security subgroup began its meeting in Minsk today. The meeting will focus on consequences of violations of the current truce by the Ukrainian side, extra measures to reinforce the ceasefire in light of the unprecedented subversive attack, which killed head of the Donetsk People's Republic Alexander Zakharchenko, who is a signatory party of the Minsk Agreements, and current problems and further steps to disengage forces and withdraw heavy weapons," he said.

DPR envoy Alexei Nikonorov proposed beginning a meeting of the security subgroup with a minute of silence for the memory of Zakharchenko, he said.

"Members of three delegations stood up and commemorated [Alexander Zakharchenko], but Ukrainian envoys unfortunately ostentatiously left the session hall with inappropriate commentaries, declaring a technical pause for themselves," he said.

"The coordinator of the working group [Ambassador Ertugrul Apakan] proposed participants making their proposals in light of discussing the stances of the negotiating parties at the previous meeting with regard to extra measures of monitoring the truce. In this connection, Nikonorov has put for consideration three primary additional measures, which include a ban on any gunfire, a ban on the reconnaissance and subversive activity, and the necessity to undertake thorough inquiries into all violations," the DPR's JCCC envoy said.

The school truce was breached by the Ukrainian side three hours and 15 minutes after it took effect, he said at the Minsk meeting.
