Western partners should not thwart fight against Idlib terrorists with contradictory signals - Russian Foreign Ministry

MOSCOW. Sept 5 (Interfax) - Russia urges Western partners to accelerate, not decelerate, the process of fighting terrorists in Idlib, the Russian Foreign Ministry's spokesperson Maria Zakharova said on Wednesday.

"The global threat in northwestern Syria must be eliminated. We believe that partners should not decelerate this process with contradictory signals," Zakharova stated on the ministry's website.

"Not thwart but speed it up by separating the al-Nusra [a terror group, banned in Russia] from the opposition forces willing to join the political process and by encouraging their local reconciliation with authorities. This would be the best contribution to the cause of saving civilian lives, preventing their casualties and suffering, which we the Russian Federation would like to avoid the most," Zakharova said.
