ASTANA. Sept 6 (Interfax) - The Kazakh Defense Ministry has reiterated the lack of plans to deploy Kazakh servicemen to Syria and said it is not discussing this option with anyone.
"The stance of the Republic of Kazakhstan on Syria has been unaltered," an officer of the Kazakh Defense Ministry told Interfax in response to the question whether Kazakhstan might deploy troops to Syria for joining humanitarian operations of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO).
The Kazakh Foreign Ministry has declared the country's stance before: Kazakhstan has no intention to send troops to Syria and is not conducting substantive talks on that matter with anyone, the officer said.
The Russian General Staff invited SCO member states in late August to take part in the humanitarian operation in Syria, including mine action, joint patrolling, and reconstruction of Syrian infrastructure.
Kazakh President Nursultan Nazarbayev said in 2017 that the country would send peacekeepers to Syria should the UN Security Council decide so.
